Stays cleaner 3× Longer between cleanings measured against traditional steam cleaning

Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?

That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.

✓Nothing sticky left behindOur low-moisture method puts only a little solution into the rug and takes the soil out with it, so no soapy film is left for dirt to cling to.
✓Stays cleaner about 3× longerOn average, a rug cleaned our way holds its look about three times longer between visits than a rug given a traditional steam cleaning.
✓No re-soiling a month laterThe dull path that reappears a few weeks after a cleaning is almost always residue pulling soil back. Take the residue away and it stops happening.
✓Dry in about an hour, on your own floorRugs are cleaned right where they lie and walk-on dry in about an hour, so nothing leaves the house and nothing sits damp for days.

More about rug cleaning

Why we clean rugs at home

Your rug stays put, and you see it finished

Some companies roll a rug up and haul it off to be cleaned somewhere else. Ours never leaves the room it lives in. The technician cleans it on your own floor, and you look at the finished rug together before the visit ends.

Keeping the rug at home spares you a stretch of bare floor while it is away, and nobody has to wrestle a heavy rug out to a vehicle. It also means you can point at a spot and watch what happens to it.

Every visit starts with the two of you looking the rug over, from the spills you have noticed to the state of the fringe. The technician measures it and writes down a price, and that price is what you pay.

Pricing

One starting rate, whatever the rug is made of

Rugs start at $1 a square foot, and the fiber can change the final price: wool, silk and Oriental rugs take more care than synthetics. The technician measures the rug with you and puts the full price in writing before cleaning starts.

How it's cleaned

Fiber first, then a gentle low-moisture clean

Rugs are made of very different things, and each one takes cleaning in its own way. So the first job is checking the fiber, whether that is a hard-wearing synthetic, a wool or silk weave, or a hand-knotted Oriental, and setting the clean up to suit it.

A small amount of solution loosens the soil trapped low in the pile, and it comes away on absorbent cleaning pads. Because so little water goes in, the rug is never soaked through, which is easier on it and the reason it is dry in about an hour.

Fringe and bound edges are where a rug shows dirt first, so the technician gives them real care, and the rug looks finished from one end to the other.

What to expect

What cleaning can do for a rug, and what it can't

The technician tells you which is which while looking at your rug, before you approve the price.

Usually comes out

  • Everyday grit that dulls the colors
  • Spills from the dinner table
  • Pet accidents, smell included
  • The darker path where people cross the rug
  • Dirt packed into the fringe

Cleaning can't undo

  • Color that sunlight has already faded
  • Dye that has run from one color into another
  • Fringe that is frayed or worn away
  • Holes, burns and pile worn down to the weave

Before we arrive

A few minutes of prep for your rug

Clear the top

Lift off plants, baskets and anything breakable. The technician handles the lighter furniture.

Share what you know

If you know the fiber or where the rug came from, mention it. It helps with the plan.

Point out the spots

Show us each spill or accident, and what caused it if you remember.

Give it an hour

Keep feet and furniture off the rug for about an hour while it dries.

When you're ready, our scheduling page shows the open times, and you'll hear from our office to confirm the one you pick.

Questions people ask about their rugs

Is it safe to clean a hand-knotted wool rug right in our living room?

Yes. Hand-knotted wool is one of the fibers the technician checks for before starting, and the clean is set up around it. The clean adds only a light dampness, so the rug is never soaked through, and it dries in about an hour right where it lies. And our satisfaction guarantee covers the rug the same as everything else we clean.

How do you work out what a rug will cost?

By its size and its fiber. Every rug starts at $1 a square foot, and wool, silk and hand-knotted rugs can cost more because they take more care. The technician measures it with you and writes the price down before cleaning, and that written figure is what you pay. If a small rug is the only thing on the visit, our $99 job minimum applies.

The fringe on our rug has turned gray. Will it brighten up?

Usually it does. Fringe catches grit and shows it, so the technician gives it attention of its own during the clean. Fringe that is frayed or worn short can't be rebuilt by any cleaning, though, and if that is the case with yours, you will hear it during the walk-through, before you approve a price.

We have rugs in several rooms. Can they all be cleaned on one visit?

Yes. Give us a rough count and the sizes as you book, so the visit is planned with time for every rug. Each one is checked for its fiber and cleaned where it lies, then priced by its size on a single written quote. You see that total and approve it before the first rug is touched.

How soon can the coffee table go back on the rug?

After about an hour. The rug is only lightly damp when the technician finishes, and it dries right where it lies. Plan on the full hour before the coffee table or anything heavy goes back on top, and try to keep people off it until then. If you are not sure it is ready, press a hand flat on it: dry to the touch means it is.

Why clean a rug at home instead of sending it out?

Because you keep the rug, and you see the work. Nothing has to be rolled up, carried out or left somewhere else, and your floor is never bare while it is gone. You look the rug over with the technician before and after, so a spot or a stretch of fringe that still bothers you gets a second go before the visit ends.
